Goals Beyond the Field: Empowering Youth through Sports and European Values

About the Project

“Goals Beyond the Field: Empowering Youth through Sports and European Values” is a 12-month project led by IKOS, partnering with AURYN, INTERCULTURA, Çağdaş Kolejliler, and VC Strumica. It aims to empower 320+ youth from disadvantaged backgrounds and 16 youth workers/sport staff through sports activities aligned with European Youth Goals.

Key activities include local sports events on significant days (e.g., Europe Day), an international training in France, ideathons for social solutions, and a youth sports exchange in North Macedonia. The project also features a website, podcasts, digital content, and social media campaigns for visibility.

Deliverables include a Training Kit on Education Through Sport (ETS), a European Youth Goals Assessment Matrix, and a Project Booklet — all designed to promote sports as a tool for youth empowerment and social change, especially for those with fewer opportunities.

European Youth Objectives to which Contribution is Expected

Promotion of Health and Well-being (Goal 5: Mental Health and Well-being): Using sports as a medium to improve mental as well as physical health.

Social Inclusion through Sport (Goal 3: Inclusive Societies): Designing sports programs or events that are inclusive to all, regardless of background, ability, or socioeconomic status. This could involve creating mixed-ability sports teams, hosting tournaments for underrepresented groups, or using sport as a tool to integrate marginalized youth.

Education and Training (Goal 8: Quality Learning): Implementing educational workshops that use sport as a teaching tool. For example, lessons in teamwork, leadership, and fair play can be integrated into sports training sessions. This can also include professional development opportunities for young people in sports management, coaching, and other related fields.

Environmental Sustainability (Goal 10: Sustainable Green Europe): Encouraging environmental awareness and action among young athletes and participants. Initiatives could include eco-friendly sports events, campaigns to clean up local sports facilities, or incorporating environmental education into sports programs.

Empowerment through Sport (Goal 9: Space and Participation for All): Utilizing sports platforms to engage young people in civic activities and discussions about democracy and participation. This could be done through organizing sports events that also serve as forums for youth dialogue on political and social issues.

Equality (Goal 2: Equality of All Genders): Addressing gender stereotypes and promote equality in sport. This could involve workshops, campaigns, or mixed-gender sports activities designed to challenge gender norms and encourage equal participation from all genders.

Project results

European Youth Goals Assessment Tools to incorporate Sport for European Values:

In order to assess the European Youth Goals’ implementation in the youth and sport organizations’ activities, there will be an assessment matrix developed by IKOS and AURYN with the input of each organization between M4 – M6. Later on, such matrix will be promoted in local sport actions and MSEs to create awareness among relevant target groups.

Training Kit on the usage of Education Through Sport for European Youth Goals and practical methods:

After the implementation of the training course in France, all youth workers and sport staff will be responsible of creating min. 24 sport methods in English based on ETS to promote European Youth Goals. The toolkit will be launched in the organizations website and social media channels.

Project Booklet on the good practices of Youth Goals-oriented Local Sport Actions:
In M12, implemented local sport actions and success stories will be collected under project booklet to be spread across Europe among various stakeholders.
